Noctalis Umbra was created by Marie-Sophie Germain, a French writer, journalist, photographer and digital storyteller living in Denmark.

For more than three decades, Marie-Sophie has worked with words, images, ideas and imaginary worlds. She has written books and thousands of articles, created websites, explored photography and watercolour, and built projects at the intersection of science, storytelling and visual culture.

Long before Noctalis, she created the Xenobiology Museum, a fictional scientific universe devoted to imaginary extraterrestrial life. This first AI project already reflected one of her strongest creative instincts: giving structure, history and meaning to beings and worlds that do not exist.

Noctalis was born from a more intimate place.

Marie-Sophie has never seen darkness as something negative. To her, darkness is not emptiness, evil or absence. It is shelter. It is silence. It is the space where the senses become sharper, where imagination expands, and where light can finally reveal its true intensity.

The night has always offered something that daylight often cannot: distance from noise, freedom from spectacle, and a form of quiet truth.

Noctalis was created to embody that idea.

She is not a superhero, an influencer in the traditional sense, or a cheerful digital mascot. She is a melancholic presence, calm, distant and attentive. Through her, Marie-Sophie explores the Moon, the night, transformation, solitude, memory and the beauty of what remains hidden.

Every Noctalis work begins with a human idea. Marie-Sophie develops the concept, defines the visual direction, generates and selects the images, creates multiple animated clips, edits the final sequence and chooses the music that will give each vision its rhythm and emotional tone.

Artificial intelligence provides the tools, but the intention, coherence, symbolism and story come from the creator.

Noctalis is therefore not Marie-Sophie’s alter ego. She is closer to a projection, a vessel and a presence through which certain ideas can take form.

She expresses a conviction that has shaped the entire project:
